On July 8, 2026, the Academic Committee Meeting of Hubei Key Laboratory for Prevention and Control of Major Crop Diseases, Pests and Weeds was successfully held at the Institute of Plant Protection and Soil Fertilizer, Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Following standardized procedures, the meeting consisted of multiple key sessions including leaders’ addresses, work reports, academic exchanges, committee renewal discussions and expert reviews. Core researchers and young scientists of the laboratory attended the meeting. Chaired in separate sessions by Bao Yu, Wan Hu, Yan Tong and other colleagues, the whole meeting proceeded in a rigorous, orderly, pragmatic and efficient manner.


At the outset of the meeting, leaders from Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences delivered addresses. They fully acknowledged the phased achievements made by the laboratory in recent years, including the monitoring and early warning of major crop diseases, pests and weeds, research and development of green prevention and control technologies, analysis of pest and disease resistance mechanisms, and safeguarding agroecological security. They highly recognized the laboratory’s research orientation of basing itself on the reality of agricultural production in Hubei, focusing on industrial bottlenecks and serving the overall goal of food security. Meanwhile, they encouraged the laboratory to further delve into cutting-edge fields of plant protection, strengthen scientific and technological innovation as well as achievement transformation, and deepen the integration of industry, university and research. Relying on the advantages of the provincial key laboratory platform, the laboratory should continuously tackle technical difficulties in the prevention and control of crop pests and diseases, and provide solid scientific and technological support for the high-quality development of modern agriculture in Hubei Province. Subsequently, leaders from the Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology made speeches. They put forward guiding requirements concerning the construction standards of provincial key laboratories, orientation of scientific and technological innovation, platform quality improvement and upgrading, and academic system development. It was emphasized that the laboratory should keep focusing on core research directions, make up for weaknesses in scientific research, optimize talent team development, enhance original innovation capacity, and give full play to the leading and exemplary role of the provincial scientific research platform.

Dr. Lin Chunhong, Member of the Academic Committee and Chairman of Wuda Oasis Biotechnology Group, was invited to attend the meeting and delivered a sharing speech, focusing on an in-depth interpretation of environmental assessment and the cutting-edge concepts of agricultural grand health. He pointed out that the prevention and control of crop diseases, pests and weeds in the new era is no longer limited to the single goal of “protecting yields and controlling pests”. Instead, an integrated modern agricultural development system featuring “scientific research and innovation, green prevention and control, ecological assessment and health empowerment” should be established. The traditional chemical control model tends to trigger problems such as agricultural non-point source pollution, accumulated pest resistance and reduction of farmland biodiversity. These issues not only impair the quality of farmland ecological environment, but also pose indirect threats to rice quality safety and residential ecological health. He stressed that ecological and environmental assessment should run through the whole process of crop pest and disease prevention and control. By scientifically evaluating the impacts of pesticide application and pest management measures on soil, water bodies and farmland ecosystems, relevant parties can optimize green prevention and control schemes, reduce ecological pollution and control risks from the source. Meanwhile, the concept of grand health should be thoroughly implemented to form a full-chain management route covering “farmland ecological health — agricultural product quality safety — residential environmental health”. Traditional chemical control shall be replaced by biological control technologies. With green, safe and ecological prevention and control measures, we can balance stable grain production, ecological protection and public health, facilitating the green and high-quality development of agriculture as well as rural ecological revitalization.

In June 2019, he was invited to attend the inaugural meeting of "International Ecological Community Alliance Life Community" held at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He made a report on "being an ecological restorer in the ecosystem", which proposed to solve the problems of agricultural non-point source pollution and reducing agricultural residues of agricultural products by using microbial technology to improve soil and restore ecology, so as to lay the theoretical foundation and practical scheme of harmonious coexistence between human and nature.


In November 2020, Wuhan Unioasis won the title of "Top Ten Brand Enterprises of Biological Pesticides and Biological Control" issued by the "Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation of Biological Pesticides and Biological Control Industry" established by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China. In December 2020, Wuhan Unioasis won the title of "Top Twenty of Biological Agriculture" issued by the 2020 International Agricultural Food Top 100 Future · Baima Summit (IFA2020).
